PlainJan's attends National Rodent Management Summit

Jan Huck, President & General Manager of PlainJan's in Scott City, KS, participated in Pest Control Magazine's Rodent Summit in St. Louis March 22 - 24. 50 companies representing 24 states were in attendance for this very specific pest management conference.

Jan was able to meet individually with Dr. Bobby Corrigan, a world renowned expert on rodent pest management and the author of both rodent control books and many published technical papers. Dr. Corrigan made several rodent management suggestions for PlainJan's programs for more thoough inspections and to more effectively utilize rodenticides, bait stations and traps.

Dr. Stephen Kells, University of Minnesota, also met with Jan to outline non-chemical strategy techniques to use in the large feed yards and dairy facilities serviced by PlainJan's over their 6-state area.

PlainJan's provides rodent management programs for many of the nations commercial livestock production and dairy facilities. Due to the abundant food sources and available harborages, rodent populations in commercial livestock facilities are huge and cause millions of dollars in damage.

IMPORTANT PLAINJAN'S STAFF UPDATE:

As many of you have heard, one of our PlainJan's technicians, Dalmer Durr, was injured in an accident just East of Scott City on Saturday, August 5th. Dalmer was driving a PlainJan's truck and apparently drove onto the right shoulder, overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle. Although he was wearing a seatbelt, Dalmer was thrown from the vehicle. The truck was totaled, as was the spray unit that was in the bed.

Dalmer suffered broken ribs, a punctured lung, massive head trauma and has been on a respirator since being life-watched to Wichita's Wesleyan Medical Center.

PlainJan's has been in contact with Dalmer's wife and family on a daily basis. Last week was a roller coaster with good news. . .then bad. . . then good. But as of Sunday, August 13th, Dalmer was opening his eyes and is now breathing on his own.

SO. . .we are all scrambling to fill in for Dalmer's service accounts. Please bear with us. Your weekly service may occur on a different day or with a different technician.

PlainJan's is not hiring any new, untrained, un-experienced help. We will not just "fill a hole." Your professional service and results are key to us and we'll be using our current staff; working overtime to maintain the level of services to all our customers.

Dalmer was in his 3rd season with PlainJan's and we are keeping our hopes up that he will be physically and mentally able to return to work soon.
